Fantasy Fest 2006

This year we were asked to help build the float for the King and Queen of Fantasy Fest. The King and Queen of Fantasy Fest are the couple who through a month long campaign of hosting fund raisers and charitable events, generate the most money to support Aids Help of the Florida Keys. Along with the Grand Marshal, they preside over the parade and ride in the lead float.

The theme for Fantasy Fest this year was "Key Weird on the Disoriented Express", (how many ways are there to travel to Key West) so our float will be a giant throne inside a crown suspended by hot air balloons.

All in all it was a pretty good year, even though wind and rain threatened to dampen our spirits, we stuck it out and as usual everything came together with only seconds to spare.

Dan of course gets the award for the biggest HAM in the parade, (grin) constantly coaxing and jeering the crowd into making them EARN their beads. Sean our young patawonJedi is now all grown up and won a couple of awards of his own designing floats for the Key West high school.

Rochelle and I finally got to actually watch an entire parade, having been the lead float, we took the time to finish watching the rest of the floats, some of which were surprisingly good. A lot of rentals and generic floats and from previous years, but for the most part a healthy mix of creativity, hard work and fun. Only 364 days remaining until next Fantasy Fest. We better get to work.

Happy Fantasy Fest 2006.
