DRESSCODE 2016 "Beowulf" See: wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf for the history of Beowulf See: YouTube for Beowulf video clips. See: Beowulf movie IMDb for information about the 2007 movie Beowulf with Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Joile. The Minions will embark on a quest to reenact the epic battle between Beowulf and Grendel. We would like to fill the float with as many riders as possible, Grendel hovering overhead, groping to eat the first "Barbarian" he can lay his hands on. Costumes for riders and walkers should be Norse, Nordic, Scandinavian battle armor of some kind.
If you go to eBay and search for VIKING, or GLADIATOR or BARBARIAN costumes, you can find a variety of selections ranging in price from about $25 to $50 dollars, or you can make your own. You can also find these types of costumes at the "Halloween Store" located in the Key West Winn Dixie shopping mall. These costumes can be supplemented with additions of your choice. Don't forget to add glow sticks, lights, blinkers and beads to help bling up your swagger. If you cannot make or buy a costume of your own, please contact us so that we may assist you in obtaining one. If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions please contact us at minions@islandalien.com ADDITIONAL NOTES: ![]() We are pleased to announce that Master Chef Dave Williams has graciously offered to provide catering again this year and will be serving a delicious buffet dinner for everyone on the crew.
We are also pleased to announce that the special guests of honor will be Bob and Sue D'Antonio, (the D'Antonio Delegation). If Ann Loraine is the Queen of Fantasy Fest, then Bob and Sue are its crown Prince and Princess. Bob and Sue have consistently placed within the best entries of the Fantasy Fest parade for more than a decade, and have won the Pretenders in Paradise contest more times than can be counted on the toes of Hemmingway's cats. Bring your autograph books, Frankincense and Myrrh.
We just received our supply of 3"x3" Temporary Tattoos for everyone on the crew designed specifically for the theme of the float [TOP SECRET].
When designing your costume, be sure to save some exposed skin on your UPPER LEFT ARM for crew tattoos. We did this in 2010 for the Moby Dyke float and they worked out really well.
For best results:
2). Remove clear plastic protective top sheet. 3). Press tattoo firmly onto CLEAN DRY SKIN with design facing down. 4). Hold wet cloth (or paper towel) against back of tattoo. Press down and make sure to wet it thoroughly. 5). Wait 30 seconds, (don't hurry). Peel off paper backing. 6). Gently rinse with water for best effect.
We have purchased a starter supply of 5 cases of Metallic Gold beads.
If you would like to donate beads to the float, or buy some for yourself, we prefer - recommend the Metallic GOLD 42" 10mm or larger, since the color scheme of the float will be gold. These are actually better than what we usually order, (36" 10mm) but they don't carry that size, so we had to go one size up.

By royal decree, the default ceremonial beverage of choice shall henceforth be proclaimed as MEAD "Barenjager" or similar Mead liquor, the preferred spirits and traditional libation of Beowulf's renowned Mead Hall. We will have at least one bottle on hand for the official kick off toast to the float and crew. Available at Winn Dixie for $32.
A suggested contribution of $25 dollars is appreciated but not required. Anyone is invited to join our crew free of charge as long as they have the correct costume. If you would like to donate beads to the float, they can be delivered to the build site where they will be labeled and transported on the float (so you don't have to carry them to the line up area). All other contributions, drinks, bottled water, soft drinks, snacks, sundries are appreciated. We are a small crew with a limited budget so every little bit helps. A starter supply of bottled water, soft drinks, beer, wine and a couple of deli trays (sandwich, cheese & fruit platters) will be provided. See the costumes page for additional costume tips and advise. See the Survival Guide for even more extensive information about Fantasy Fest. Thanks and best of luck for Fantasy Fest 2016. -- The Minions of Key West |
