How to build your own Time Machine
Morlocks was a 3 piece costume consisting of a blue Zentai body suit, white cosplay wig and battery powered blue Fronner EL glasses. $45 on eBay. In the movie, the Morlocks have tiny light bulbs for eyes. In searching for "light bulb" glasses on eBay, we discovered the Fronner EL glasses and quickly realized they didn't have to look exactly like the costumes in the movie. This is a different interpretation of the classic film, done Fantasy Fest style.
A modern spin on the Morlock legend. Terrific job girls! The Time Machine control panel is two soda cracker cans placed end to end and screwed onto a wooden board. Tricky work fitting an impact driver into a soda can. The lids to three jelly jars (painted red, yellow and green) are attached (upside down) to a second wooden board.
Battery powered Christmas lights (Walgreen’s $5) are inserted into the jelly jars (so we don’t even have to run electrical to it) to make them light up and blink. One inch PVC tube is used to outline the curves of the time machine. THE DISC Time Machine spinning disc is a 4 foot diameter foam board covered with metallic gold sheeting and 365 semi hemispherical plastic dots painted, placed and glued to the disc by hand. One dot for each day of the year. One dot fell off and the Time Machine wound up back in the middle ages. :-) Who knew they were that important? One of the best compliments we received about this float was from Bill, a professional designer and engineer who said it was the most "to the point and not cluttered with a bunch of fluff". A very clean simple and classic theme with a modern twist transcends the traditional ambiguity of the Fantasy Fest Parade.
